Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 20 January 2025: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has announced an agreement with Wasl Group to deliver district cooling services to The Island project, a luxury beachfront development in Dubai. With a capacity of 23,853 refrigeration tonnes (RT), the supply is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2028, according to a statement from the Dubai-listed company.
The Island is a landmark development situated on a 10.5-hectare manmade island near Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Beach. It will feature three globally renowned hotel brands — MGM, Bellagio, and Aria — alongside over 1,500 residential and hotel units, including villas and apartments. The project also boasts an array of cafés, restaurants, retail outlets, and family-friendly entertainment options.
Empower will leverage advanced district cooling systems designed to enhance energy efficiency and minimize carbon emissions, aligning with Dubai’s sustainability goals. While the financial terms of the agreement remain undisclosed, the partnership further strengthens Empower’s longstanding collaboration with Wasl Group.
In addition to The Island project, Empower has previously signed agreements with Wasl Group to supply district cooling services for several of its developments. This includes the Wasl1 project, with a total capacity of 30,000 RT, where the first phase is already operational, and subsequent phases will be connected as per the agreement. Empower is also providing 3,900 RT of cooling services to Wasl Tower, a 303-meter skyscraper on Sheikh Zayed Road.
This collaboration underscores Empower’s commitment to supporting Dubai’s vision of sustainable urban development through innovative district cooling solutions, contributing to energy efficiency and environmental conservation.
