Starting February 1, 2025, Ajman will implement a slight increase in taxi fares, adjusting the rate to Dh1.77 per kilometre, up from Dh1.74 in December and January. This change reflects the emirate’s policy of aligning transportation costs with monthly fuel price fluctuations.
In December 2024, Ajman reduced taxi fares to Dh1.74 per kilometre following a significant drop in fuel prices. This decrease was part of a broader trend, with fuel prices reaching their lowest point in 2024. However, with the recent increase in fuel costs for February 2025, the per-kilometre fare has been adjusted accordingly.
Ajman’s practice of linking taxi fares to fuel prices ensures that transportation costs remain fair and reflective of current market conditions. While the 3 fils increase per kilometre may seem minimal, it can accumulate over time, especially for daily commuters. For instance, a 10-kilometre journey will now cost Dh17.70, compared to Dh17.40 previously.
When comparing taxi fares across the UAE, Ajman remains competitive. In Abu Dhabi, the daytime starting fare for a regular taxi is Dh3.50, while in Dubai, it is Dh8. In Sharjah, the minimum fee for a regular taxi trip is Dh11.50. These rates highlight that, despite the recent increase, Ajman’s taxi fares are still among the most affordable in the region.
For residents and visitors in Ajman, it’s essential to stay informed about these fare adjustments, as they directly impact daily transportation expenses. The emirate’s commitment to adjusting fares in line with fuel prices ensures that both taxi operators and passengers are treated equitably, reflecting the dynamic nature of the global fuel market.
