Heavy Traffic Hits Dubai–Sharjah Routes During Morning Rush

Dubai, September 2, 2026: Motorists travelling between Dubai and Sharjah faced heavy congestion and longer-than-usual journey times during Wednesday morning’s peak hours. Live traffic information from Google Maps and Waze showed significant delays across several major roads, creating difficulties for commuters travelling into Dubai. 

One of the major affected areas was E44 near Jumeirah Village Circle, particularly around the interchange leading towards Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Traffic was also slow along D61 towards Al Barsha, with congestion reported around Circle Mall and nearby areas. 

Further north, commuters faced another major congestion zone around Deira, Al Qusais and Al Nahda, especially on E11 and connecting roads such as D93, D95, D97 and S112. These routes are heavily used by people travelling between Dubai and Sharjah every morning, making delays particularly disruptive during peak hours. 

The congestion comes as schools have reopened for the new academic year, bringing school buses, parents and regular commuters back onto the roads at the same time. Authorities and traffic services are advising motorists to check live traffic conditions before leaving, allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes where possible. 

Meanwhile, there is some longer-term relief planned: Sharjah’s Al Taawun tunnel project is expected to partially open in November 2026. The completed tunnel is planned to have three lanes in each direction and is designed to improve traffic flow on one of the busiest Dubai–Sharjah commuter corridors.
