Dubai Media Office Denies Reports of Explosions in Downtown Dubai

On July 16, 2026, reports circulated that loud booms or explosions had been heard in the Downtown Dubai/Business Bay area. However, the Government of Dubai Media Office later said the Reuters report about explosions in Downtown Dubai was false.

The Dubai Media Office urged residents and media outlets to rely only on official sources and avoid spreading rumours or unverified information. It also said that action could be taken against media organisations that publish false or unverified information about Dubai.

The incident attracted significant attention because Downtown Dubai is home to major landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall. The situation also came amid wider regional tensions, making people especially concerned about reports of unusual sounds.

Important update: The initial reports of explosions were later officially denied by Dubai authorities, so the story should not be presented as a confirmed explosion in Downtown Dubai.

Short version: Reports of explosions in Downtown Dubai spread on July 16, but the Dubai Media Office officially denied them as false and warned against spreading unverified information.
